The communications industry has changed significantly in the last 20 years – what young intern today could imagine printing our press releases, folding them up and posting them out everyday – or even faxing news desks with details of a launch or product announcement? That is exactly where I started – after graduating and being quite clear about wanting to work with the Media having completed work experience placements at the BBC and news services – I found myself immersed in the world of writing press releases which were then faxed or posted out to journalists.
Thankfully things have moved on but those long-days in Central London agencies helped establish my work ethic and thirst for being part of such a varied industry.
Fast forward to 2017 and I am still writing, but long-winded press releases have become 140 characters on Twitter, live video on Facebook and producing sticky content on blogs. This is the new world, the Social world, where PR has gone digital and brands really understand the need to have more of an online presence than just a website.
And this is where birdonthewire comes in. We know that not every business can stretch to Content Editors of Social Superheroes, so instead we will set up campaigns, or even the right Social channel depending on the individual business requirements.
